Description
Images
Of the more than 11,000 Vickers Wellington built, a full third were the Mk.X version. Powered by Bristol Hercules VI or XVI engines, these planes equipped Royal Air Force units in the latter part of 1942, and just a few months later, twelve squadrons of Bomber Command were equipped with them.
The Wellington Mk.X was progressively replaced by four-engined bombers, but it still had a long service history. The last Wellington retired from the RAF in 1953.
